So Why Should A Martial Artist Wear A Mouthguard?

A martial artist should wear a mouthguard for a few very practical reasons—mostly centered around protection and long-term health:

🦷 Protects your teeth

Strikes, accidental clashes, or even falls can chip, crack, or knock out teeth. A mouthguard acts as a cushion that absorbs and spreads the force.

🧠 Reduces risk of concussion

A mouthguard helps absorb impact to the jaw, which can otherwise transfer force to the skull and brain. While it doesn’t prevent concussions entirely, it can reduce the severity.

👄 Prevents cuts and soft tissue injuries

Without a mouthguard, your teeth can easily cut your lips, cheeks, or tongue during impact. The guard creates a barrier that reduces this risk.

🦴 Protects the jaw

It helps stabilize your jaw and can reduce the chance of fractures or dislocations when taking hits.

😬 Prevents grinding and clenching damage

Many fighters clench their teeth during training or sparring. A mouthguard protects against wear and stress on the teeth.

In short, it’s one of the simplest and most effective pieces of protective gear—cheap, easy to use, and potentially saving you from serious (and expensive) dental or head injuries.
