Nick Martin |
||
Sifu Nick Martin began his Wing Chun career 10 years ago under the tutelage of Master James Sinclair in Chelmsford, Essex. He has been a constant source of energy and support to the UKWCKFA with his enthusiasm and hard work. There has been no aspect of the training that Nick has shirked.
Nick has passed three grading levels to date and whilst he has completed the formal style he would still like to complete the UKWCKFA grading syllabus tests as they are still a great challenge to any individual and a sign that he has mastered not just comprehended the theories.
Nicks energy and enthusiasm led him to try his hand at grappling. After
a seminar with the great Rick Young Sensei he took to the mat.
Watching Ricks 'Attacking Ne-Waza' series he worked on basic skills
with his colleagues and then fate led a former UK Wing Chun student and
now seasoned grappler to open classes at the HQ. Nick became part of the
competion team and managed to win a gold medal in a small event in Essex
against Elite from South London. There is some video footage links at
the bottom of this page. In 2004 Nick went to Los Angeles where he trained under Fernando Vasconcellos, the one and only Rickson Gracie and at RAW with Frank Trigg. Nick took an active part in the making of the 'Wallbag Training' video where you have the opportunity to experience his energy and enthusiasm. He deals with a number of different areas such as rolling punches, palm strikes and lifting kick variations. Although Nick loves the grappling arts he has been focusing totally on his Wing Chun training since September 2005 in preparation for the VTAA Second World Wing Chun Conference in November '05. He has made great strides forward. Nick hopes to return to the grappling arena as he enjoys the competition and the development of new skills. Sifu Nick Martin has completed the formal art, completing the Butterfly Knives form in 2005 but has many challenges left as he still wishes to pass the UKWCKFA grading syllabus and prove himself a top class Wing Chun practitioner not just someone who has a good ability and a lot of knowledge. His inspirtation is his own teacher James Sinclair and and his elder Kung Fu brothers Sifu Mark Phillips and Sifu Eric Wilson.
Nick recently began teaching in mainstream Junior Schools and has 3 presently. He believes children can learn all the fundamentals of martial arts and develop as strong decent individuals who will go on to be better citizens and role models to other kids. 2007 has been a year of change for Nick, with him focusing on womens self defence classes and courses. Like everything Nick has totally immersed himself in the subject and has left such a good impression the the Poilice, and various other groups are giving him their support.
